Outside the core.

This dude plays Mitchum Huntzberger--Logan's father on Gilmore Girls. More importantly, he had a brief spot as a sheriff in the Firefly episode "The Train Job".

Tonight, he and Rory shared a bit of post-dinner banter while Logan took a call. Seriously, this gets good.

"Blah, blah, blah. You're good for my son. Blah, blah. Didn't mean the shit I said about you last season, blah." And then, "Blah, (something about a) firefly." "Firefly?" asks Rory. "Firefly." There could have been more, I missed a lot between handfuls of chips, but it was said. Thrice.

Now, I'm pretty sure there's minimal crossover between geek tv and the GG, so I'm not certain who, outside of my tiny universe of couch and Tostitos brand salsa, this was aimed at, but it can only be a signal. A signal that the CW is obviously looking to pick up where Fox tripped up. And that Mitch will be reprising his role as the gruff, diseased, and not wholly unattractive Sheriff.

At least a person can hope.

George Takei was on Heroes a couple of weeks ago and his license plate was NCC 1701. But I'd imagine the overlap of trek fans and heroes fans is a lot larger than the group interested in both gilmore and firefly.

we caught that too. and there's more. there was a very pointed, very useless scene in GG last night about being "out of gas"--the name of another firefly (and my personal favorite) episode. it might be stretching things here a bit, but tonight we're thinking of letting the CW run to see just what we can pick up.

I'd be hopeful, except Joss flat out said Firefly was done. Maybe someone can change his mind?

Huge wads of cash can do that.

People would watch, damn it.

What a lovely conspiracy theory for the day! The return of Firefly. The return of Kaycee. . .

Unfortunately, The Firefly is the name of the Inn that Lorelai runs, isnt' it?

I don't think the writers for GG have enough intelligence to consciously make this connection.

it's actually the dragonfly inn, though I'm impressed (alarmed?) by even that level of knowledge.

Gilmore Girls, formerly One Tree Hill, formerly Dawson's Creek, formerly 90210 = Scott's Guilty Pleasure

Gregg Henry is in "Payback," which I just finished watching (again) and is Mel Gibson's best movie. Well, maybe not best, but certainly most enjoyable.
